Barbeque Cooking
Hanging out with friends and neighbours
Barbeque cooking is normally associated with partying with neighbours and
friends, though not many people own a barbeque big enough to cook for everybody. Therefore, it might be a good idea to first pre-cook some food
such as sausages or chicken drumsticks and then simply reheat them on the barbeque to absorb its wonderful flavor. Ideally, you should just stick
with two or three main course dishes and complement them with various salads and breads.
Barbeque Cooking Equipment
There is a range of different barbeque cooking equipment that one can use. Popular bbq cooking equipment available includes charcoal barbeques,
disposable barbeques, kettle barbeques, and gas barbeques. In addition to these, there are plenty of barbeque recipes to choose from such as
chicken wings, barbeque spare ribs, gourmet burgers, Thai spiced burgers and spicy kofta burgers. If all these terms do not conjure up images
of succulent dishes you may be one of the few who don’t care for barbeque cooking.
Helpful Tips and Advice on Barbeque Cooking
It is not necessary for barbequed food to be black on the outside and pink on the insides. The key to good bbq cooking lies in
the way the food is cooked. Here are a few helpful tips to help you with barbeque cooking:
Marinate the food before barbequing to keep the food tender and enhance the natural flavour, especially of meat.
Brush vegetables with oil before tossing them on the grill.
Be generous with your spices. Barbeque cooking is associated with hot weather and flames, so it is only right that it should
be hot and spicy too.
Allow at least thirty minutes to heat up the coals so that they reach the desired temperature. The coals are hot enough when
they have turned a dusty white. When you blow on them, they should glow.
More than just a Hot Flame
Barbeque cooking does not mean just hot flames and plenty of quick cooking. It actually requires careful temperature control.
Also, since modern barbeques have the ability to grill, fry, roast and bake one should be prepared to experiment with bbq cooking (without
producing leaping flames that burn down the carport, or thick black smoke that asphixiates the neighbour's cat). It is advisable to cut off the
fat to reduces smoke and leaping flames - eyebrows make a pleasant addition to most faces and do not need to be removed. Try not prod the food
too much. Avoid don’t flipping burgers and steaks more than necessary, and of course, use non-toxic firelighters so you don't get the taste of
paraffin in your cooked food and spend the night on the bathroom floor with your head down the toilet.
"Hi Jean. Let's be friends"
Some other barbeque cooking safety tips are to not let bacteria attack the food, especially not E.coli O157, which may be
present in beef products such as burgers. It is also recommended that the barbeque be lit well in advance to get it up to the right temperature
for cooking as well as avoiding cross contamination. Always clean the barbeque grill thoroughly after use. Following these few simple guidelines
will leave you with nothing but fun with your barbeque cooking
